Method of Working:
The central core of my work is Person Centred with the principles developed by Carl Rogers. I hold the belief that through dialogue potential solutions can be explored that result in an understanding of what makes us who we are. I am not a passive counsellor but encourage a joint exploration of the key issues that affect individuals and I provide a safe environment for this to be undertaken. I stress the importance of the individual having a sense of retaining control of what is to be explored even though there will be times when discomfort is felt.
Client Group: Individuals
I was trained as Probation Officer by the Home Office and worked as a Probation Officer and Senior Probation Officer for about thirty years with a period of five years working with Social Services in Child Protection. I have worked with substance misuse and the consequences of childhood sexual abuse.
In more recent times I have been associated with two charities that work with individuals and their families when an individual has lost their hearing. Those that are affected by this life changing experience are known by the collective title as the deafened. My interest in this group has caused me to undertake research into the experience of the partners deafened and this research current and ongoing.
